Well here I am. Here you are. Now, go away.
What's the saddest of one of the saddest songs you've heard. You can go way back if you want. I chucked out the CD player and pulled out my 8 track player and listened to a bunch of old tapes (still playable). One was by Cat Stevens and I got weepy back then a now. Lady D'Arbanville was the song. >

#11 by Tiggz - 6/12/2004 11:30:48 AM practically anything by Nick Drake

Tiggz, exactly what I was thinking. I also think that anything by Elliott Smith would suffice, but since many people are posting lyrics, I'll give the lyrics to one of his more popular songs:

Nick Drake - "Needle In The Hay"

your hand on his arm
the hay stack charm around your neck
strung out and thin
calling some friend trying to cash some check
he's acting dumb
that's what you've come to expect
needle in the hay
needle in the hay
needle in the hay
needle in the hay
he's wearing yr clothes
head down to toes a reaction to you
you say you know what he did
but you idiot kid
you don't have a clue
sometimes they just get caught in the eye
you're pulling him through
needle in the hay
needle in the hay
needle in the hay
needle in the hay
now on the bus
nearly touching this dirty retreat
falling out 6th and powell a dead sweat in my teeth
gonna walk walk walk
four more blocks plus one in my break
down downstairs to the man
he's gonna make it all ok
i can't beat myself
i can't beat myself
and i don't want to talk
i'm taking the cure so i can be quiet
whenever i want
so leave me alone
you ought to be proud that i'm getting good marks

How about "Crying" by Roy Orbison, not much to the lyrics, except for "cryiiiiinnnng" a couple of times, then he hits that high note, and its way cool!

ok way sad!

I agree that REM - Everybody Hurts is a sad song. However one sad song I love hearing is "Bruce Cockburn - The Loner" . The sax playing in that song is so yearning, so perfectly fitting.
Another favorite is "Ed Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band - Tender Years"

You know according to Elton John "Sad Songs(Say so much)" and ain't it the truth.

Epiphany - Staind

Your words to me just a whisper
Your faces is so unclear
I try to pay attention
But your words just disappear

'Cause its always raining in my head
Forget all the thing's I should have said

So I speak to you in riddles cause
My words get in my way. I smoke the
whole thing to my head and feel it
wash away 'cause i can't take anymore
of this, I want to come apart.
and dig myself a little hole inside
your precious heart

'Cause its always raining in my head
Forget all the things I should have said

I am nothing more than a little boy inside
That cries out for attention
though I always try to hide
'Cause I talk to you like children,
Though I don't know how I feel
But I know I'll do the right thing
If the right thing is revealed

'Cause its always raining in my head
Forget all the things I should have said

I can't believe no one mentioned "Old Shep" by Elvis..... now THAT is sad.

And what about "Honey" by Bobby Goldsboro? do they GET any sadder than that?

There's also a little known song by "Yes", called "Turn of the century", from their "Going for the one" album, another very beautiful but sad song.

And my personal favourite: "Nevermore" by Queen, on their "Queen II" album.

I always liked Kris Kristofferson

For The Good Times

Don't look so sad
I know it's over
But life goes on
And this world
Keeps on turning

Let's just be glad
We had this time
To spend together
There is no need to watch the bridges
That we're burning

Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body
Close to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops
Blow softly against my window
Make believe you love me
One more time
For the good times
For the good times

I'll get along
I'm sure you'll find another
baby please remember
I'll be here
I'm going to stay right here
If you should ever find
You need me
Yeah

Don't say a word
About tomorrow
Or forever and ever and ever and ever
There'll be time enough for severance
When you leave me
For the good times
For the good times

Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body
Close to mine
Hear the whisper of the raindrops
Blow softly against my window
Make believe you love me
One more time
For the good times
For the good times

Me And Bobby McGee

Busted flat in Baton Rouge, headin' for the trains,
feelin' nearly faded as my jeans.
Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained,
took us all the way to New Orleans.
Took my harpoon out of my dirty red bandana
and was blowin' sad while Bobby sang the blues,
With them windshield wipers slappin' time and
Bobby clappin' hands we finally sang up every song
that driver knew.

Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose,
and nothin' ain't worth nothin' but it's free,
Feelin' good was easy, Lord, when Bobby sang the blues,
and buddy, that was good enough for me,
Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee.

From the coalmines of Kentucky to the California sun,
Bobby shared the secrets of my soul,
Standin' right beside me through everythin' I done,
and every night she kept me from the cold.
The somewhere near Salinas, Lord, I let her slip away,
she was lookin' for the love I hope she'll find,
Well I'd trade all my tomorrows for a single yesterday,
holdin' Bobby's body close to mine.

Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose,
and nothin' left was all she left to me,
Feelin' good was easy, Lord, when Bobby sang the blues,
and buddy, that was good enough for me.
Good enough for me and Bobby McGee.

Last Goodbye - from Jeff Buckley's Grace album

This is our last goodbye
I hate to feel the love between us die
But it's over
Just hear this and then I'll go:
You gave me more to live for,
More than you'll ever know.

This is our last embrace,
Must I dream and always see your face
Why can't we overcome this wall
Baby, maybe it is just because I didn't know you at all.

Kiss me,
Please, kiss me
But kiss me out of desire, babe, and not consolation
You know, it makes me so angry 'cause I know that in time
I'll only make you cry,
This is our last goodbye.

Did you say "no, this can't happen to me,"
And did you rush to the phone to call?
Was there a voice unkind in the back of your mind saying,
"Maybe... you didn't know him at all."

Well, the bells out in the church tower chime
Burning clues into this heart of mine
Thinking so hard on her soft eyes and the memory
Of her sighs that, "it's over... it's over..."

I have always LOVED that song Bright Eyes Keila!! It never fails to make me sniffle! I like the theme song from Easy Rider...

The River flows
it flows to the sea
wherever that river goes
that's where I want to be

flow river flow
let your waters wash down
take me from this road
to some
other town

All they wanted
was to be free
and that's the way
it turned out to be

flow river flow
let your waters wash down
take me from this road
to some other town

flow river flow
past a shady tree
flow river flow
flow to the sea

flow river flow
flow
to the sea

I'm not sure who did it..I'm not even sure if I got all the words right....anyway....sad
