Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! Hurricane Rita is due to pass right over Old Crabs Rice farm! I'm out all day and night now trying to gather in the last of my rice crop way to early. Young rice is only good for - rice wine or rice beer! Oh fret and worry! I hope all those in the general area will stay safe! Well going back out now, to gather in more rice seedlings.

awwww

Keep safe, OC!

Um.... can you turn rice seedlings into rice wine in time to toast Rita?

No. But I am well stocked with fresh brewed beer. I plan to go out on the porch with Pint and a few friends as it comes in and drink (hopefully) to its' early demise. The crop is really just....gone. Vagaries of us poor farmers.

I'm in Houston and this one is getting scarey. May have to bug out to San Antonio Friday. Traffic on all the major highways out is averaging under 10/MPH. It's going to be a long trip (whether I stay OR go).

Wish us luck.

Yeah, please everyone stay safe and check in with us when you can.  So many of the people who frequent these forums are from that area. You'll all be in my thoughts for sure.

The latest track shows landfall north of Houston and it looks like it will probably change even further north over time. As long as your on the west or south side you won't get the worst of it. However, if it hits at 175mph it'll still be bad for Houston.

From what I see it looks like people are actually listening to the evac orders in Texas , unlike the thousands who wouldn't in New Orleans.

For all those in it's path our prayers are with you.

My prayers and thoughts are with everyone in the path of Rita. My sister and her family live in Texas. I was very happy to see one thing in the face of this monster that is different than before. The state of Texas is allowing and encouraging everyone to take their pets. That is a tremendous relief to an animal lover like me. God be with you all. Be safe, and don't take any chances. This may be worse than anyone yet knows.

WOM hopes my fellow Texans in the Houston area will leave or if ya plan on riding it out, I hope ya stay safe and come out OK. They say we will get heavy rains and 50-60 MPH winds here in DFW with a good chance of flooding.

I hope everyone on the gulf coast is taking the necessary precautions for the arrival of what seems to be a repeat of last month's storm.
Please be safe, my thoughts are with you all.

WrecklessEric also hopes everyone will stay out of harms way... another nasty storm

The southern states have been pounded this year. Good luck, Crab. Drop me a note at sleeping-dragon at comcast.net. I'd like to buy some OC Sake from you. Seriously.

Be safe.

I've just been reading the news on hurricane Rita and I pray that everyone comes through it safely. Having experienced cyclones in Queensland Australia, and going through the Brisbane floods of 1974, I know how ferocious these storms can be, so my thoughts are with everyone in Rita's path and hope you all keep safe

The Lord keep you and yours!

Please be safe!
